Federal Polytechnic Oko Welcomes New Deputy Rector Academic

The Federal Polytechnic Oko has a new Deputy Rector Academic, Dr. Nkiruka Maria-Assumpta Akabuike. Dr. Akabuike's appointment was announced after Dr. Uche Onyegbu, the former Deputy Rector Academic Officer, retired from service on May 5, 2025, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65 years.

Dr. Akabuike received her appointment letter from the Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Dr. Barnabas Gemade OFR. The letter was presented to her by Rector Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie. Dr. Akabuike was elected by the Academic Board during their regular meeting on April 2, 2025.

Before her appointment, Dr. Akabuike served as the Acting Dean, School of Applied Science and Technology. She has been succeeded in that role by Dr. Amaka Chijioke. Dr. Akabuike's wealth of experience and academic expertise will undoubtedly benefit the polytechnic in her new role.

The polytechnic recently held a send-off ceremony to honor Dr. Onyegbu and Dr. Chukwugekwu Ubaka, both former Acting Rectors of the institution. The ceremony celebrated their leadership, sacrifice, and lasting contributions to the polytechnic. Dr. Onyegbu's dedication to the institution is evident in his impressive career, which includes serving as Head of Department, Public Administration, and Director, Academic Planning.

With Dr. Akabuike at the helm, the polytechnic looks forward to continued academic excellence and growth. We congratulate Dr. Akabuike on her appointment and wish her well in her new role. We also thank Dr. Onyegbu for his years of service and dedication to the polytechnic. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations of students and staff.
